"Someday" lyrics - most commonly used version:

Someday
When we are wiser
When the world's older
When we have learned
I pray
Someday we may yet live
To live and let live
Someday
Life will be fairer
Need will be rarer
Greed will not pay
God speed
This bright millennium
On its way
Let it come
Someday

Someday
Our fight will be won then
We'll stand in the sun then
That bright afternoon
Till then
On days when the sun is gone
We'll hang on
Wish upon the moon

There are some days dark and bitter
Seems we haven't got a prayer
But a prayer for someday better
Is the one thing we all share

Someday
When we are wiser
When the world's older
When we have learned
I pray
Someday we may yet live
To live and let live
Someday
Life will be fairer
Need will be rarer
Greed wil not pay
God speed
This bright millennium
Let it come
Wish upon the moon
One day
Someday
Soon.

"Someday" lyrics - earlier version

SOMEDAY

Music by Alan Menken
Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

(AS PERFORMED BY ALL-4-ONE)

SOMEDAY
WHEN WE ARE WISER
WHEN THE WORLD'S OLDER
WHEN WE HAVE LEARNED
I PRAY
SOMEDAY WE MAY YET LIVE
TO LIVE AND LET LIVE
SOMEDAY
LIFE WILL BE FAIRER
NEED WILL BE RARER
GREED WILL NOT PAY
SOME SAY
THAT'S JUST A DREAM THAT WE'LL
NEVER FEEL
MAKE IT REAL
SOMEDAY

SOMEDAY
FEAR WON'T DIVIDE US
LIARS WON'T GUIDE US
MESSIAHS WILL STAY
GOD SPEED
THIS BRIGHT MILLENIUM
ON ITS WAY
LET IT COME
SOMEDAY

THERE ARE SOME DAYS DARK AND BITTER
SEEMS WE HAVEN'T GOT A PRAYER
BUT A PRAYER FOR SOMEDAY BETTER
IS THE ONE THING WE ALL SHARE

SOMEDAY
WHEN WE ARE WISER
WHEN THE WORLD'S OLDER
WHEN WE HAVE LEARNED
SOMEDAY
MANKIND WILL BE KINDER
JUSTICE BLINDER
SOMEDAY
OUR FIGHT WILL BE WON THEN
THAT BRIGHT AFTERNOON
TILL THEN
ON DAYS WHEN THE SUN IS GONE
WE'LL HANG ON
WISH UPON THE MOON
CHANGE WILL COME
ONE DAY
SOMEDAY
SOON.

Comments from Stephen Schwartz

Schwartz: "The song "Someday" was originally written to replace "God Help the Outcasts", but then ultimately we returned to the original song. But since everybody liked "Someday" as well, it was then used as an end title credit for the film.

In the stage version, "Someday" is used towards the end, when Esmeralda is
being led to execution. The scene on the roof with Quasimodo has a new song in
it entitled "Top of the World" in the stage version, but in the film, it was
never envisioned to include a song."
